Summer is a perfect time for the children to enjoy, but it is very important to protect them with a mosquito repellent.

Mosquito bites cause discomfort, allergic reactions, and can also transmit numerous diseases. You must be careful with the repellent you use, as the chemical repellents called DEET contain toxic substances that in high concentrations may carry serious illness to the babies.

Natural repellents based on natural ingredients and essential oils, such as clove, eucalyptus and citronella are the safest option. You can find these oils on the market or make them by yourself.

Prepare your own repellents by mixing a tablespoon of citronella, clove or eucalyptus essential oil with 1 liter of alcohol and 100 ml. of baby oil. Let it settle for several hours and then massage on the baby’s skin. The essential oil of citronella is an excellent repellent, because its scent drives mosquitoes away. You can use the oil or burn citronella candles outdoors.

Watch your environment to keep insects away. Put mosquito nets and window fans in your baby’s room and all through your home. Fans make it uneasy for mosquitoes to fly around.

Remove stagnant water from any place, because it can attract mosquitoes and raise their breeding. Empty all cans, plant pots and ponds. Try to keep your baby indoors in the evening and avoid staying in damp places.

Grow rosemary and marigolds in your courtyard or garden. These plants have a scent that repels most insects, especially mosquitoes.
